This is generally performed by a guru in the precincts of a temple. If the facility of a temple is not available it is done in the pilgrim’s own house. Offering poojas to the Lord, the pilgrim takes refuge in Him and puts a garland of Tulasi or Rudraksha round his neck. After he has performed Maladharan the pilgrim withdraws from all social activities. His life is regulated by ablutions and prayers at dawn and dusk, and his diet restricted. He participates in all religious discourses, bhajans and other activities of a religious nature. He visits as many temples as he can during this period. In short he spends his time in things divine.
